Zach Margolis's Recommendations
Seattle
Seattle is such an easy trip from San Francisco, and one of my best friends lives up there so I end up visiting pretty often. At this point, I’m starting to feel like I have a solid enough grasp of the city to offer some recommendations!
I've marked a few favorites with a ★. I like pretty much everything on this list, but I love those.

Touristy Attractions
-
★ Chihuly Garden and Glass (Queen Anne): Nearly an entire museum dedicated to the glassblowing work of Dale Chihuly. It’s such a treat!
-
★ Underground Tour (Pioneer Square): This is a really fun walking history tour, it talks about some of the seedy history of Seattle. Learning about “seamstresses” was highlight.
-
Center for Wooden Boats (South Lake Union): Fun lil museum! Probably not worth a trip on its own, but if you’re at MOHAI nearby, definitely worth stopping in!
-
Hot Tub Boats (Westlake): A company rents out little pontoon boats with hot tubs on them and a small outboard motor, you can putt-putt around Lake Union
-
Museum of History and Industry (MOHAI) (South Lake Union): Neat museum right on Lake Union, has a cool mix of exhibits.
-
Space Needle (Queen Anne): Probably the most iconic building in the Seattle skyline. The rotating restaurant lounge is priced like a tourist attraction, but its really cool to be up there.
Bars
-
Hula Hula (Capital Hill): Divey tiki bar that also has karaoke (I haven’t been there late enough for karaoke).
-
Jupiter Bar (Belltown): Bar with pizza in the front and a ton of pinball machines and arcade games in the back!
Food
-
Danbo (Capital Hill): Great ramen spot. No reservations, so plan to wait in line a little bit.
-
Hot Cakes (Capital Hill): Dessert cafe with incredible lava cakes and good cookies. Treat yourself!
