About a week ago, I got some friends together and we walked the SF Crosstown Trail. It was my second time doing this trail; last year, I did walk this trail with some other friends, but didn’t load my film correctly, so I didn’t end up with any film photos to show for it.
I used my 21mm lens and loaded some Portra 400, practiced the Sunny 16 rule a bit again (I did some metering as well), and I am so extremely pleased with how these turned out. Clearly, I exposed the first shot or so while loading, but for the most part got things right!

The sky was amazingly clear that day. We could clearly see the Farralon Islands from our walk. The one thing about such a wide angle lens and film with this grain, is that it barely shows up in the photos. But they were there!

Towards the end of the walk, I was very close to the end of the film roll. I was so thankful I still had one shot left when we got to Sutro Baths, and it was a great way to wrap up the walk.
Path
We started at Candlestick Park, and made our way across the city. Compared to the “official” route, we skipped going over the top of Grand View Park because we were a little tired and hungry at that point, but we generally stuck to it.
Our goal was to start at Candlestick Park and I wanted to end up at the Camera Obscura at the Cliff House. The only planned stop along the way was Pineapple King Bakery, so we had a spot to meet up with Benjamin and Luna. We also stopped for lunch around that time and I got to try the aptly-named Szechuan Cuisine restaurant, which was great. Their mapo tofu was exactly what I needed, so I’ve added it to my SF Recs List.
The total walk ended up at 18.31mi, 41,524 steps in 8hr35min (6hr15min of moving time) according to my watch.
Most of these longer walks are really fun because I get to see things I wouldn’t pass normally, and the SF Crosstown is no exception. We were fortunate to have stellar weather, and the company was great as well. We had a few cast changes and rotations as the day went on but overall I’m so glad I was able to do this.
