I’m still waiting on my official swim date, but in the meantime I’ve been training here in Tarifa. Through ACNEG (the group that organizes these Gibraltar crossings) I got introduced to a network of other swimmers.
-
I got put in touch with with Aldo Jansel who is currently waiting on a swim slot as well. Aldo gave a TEDx talk on toilets.
-
Aldo introduced me to Atilla Mányoki (also on OpenWaterpedia) a Hungarian swimmer who’s also training to cross the Strait this week. Atilla has swam 5 of the Oceans Seven already and set the record for crossing the Molokai Channel (Gibraltar will be his sixth one).
-
Then this morning when training with Atilla, we ran into Tita Llorens who swam from mainland Spain to Ibiza – 90km (aka 56 miles!). She already swam Gibraltar in 2010, she’s just on vacation this week.
It’s super humbling to be able to swim and train with other super accomplished swimmers.
