Every year our neighbors the Dolphin Club host the DC EFAT: Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon. This year, I decided I wanted the participation belt buckle!
The swim went very well, I didn’t work too hard and I was the first one out of the water.
The bike and the run, I took a lot slower, I was towards the end of the pack. But, I still finished and I still got my belt buckle! Proud to have completed this.
A things about the DC EFAT, is that it’s not a standard triathlon distance. The swim is about 1.25mi, the bike is from the clubs to the base of the Dipsea trail (about 13 miles) and then the run is a there-and-back on the Dipsea Trail (also called a Double Dipsea) which ends up being 14 miles or so.
The swim and the run are about the distances for a half Ironman, but the bike is much shorter than the 55 miles of a half Ironman (thankfully).
