Another year volunteering as a “swim angel” (buddy swimmer) for SERC’s annual Alcatraz Invitational fundraiser. The squiggle at the end of the route is when, after I followed in a swimmer to the finish line, the other volunteer staff had me hop back in to go assist other swimmers.
I felt useful as a buddy. Within 5 minutes of getting in, I found one swimmer who was having a lot of trouble, and we decided he wanted out, so we called over support boats to help him.
I found another pair of swimmers who were mostly doing fine, but did not sight very well, so I mostly just paced them and stayed on their right side to help nudge/herd them to the left a bit.
